I Lost My Focus for a Second… And God Gently Called Me Back.

I looked away and took my eyes off.
Happy March, my sisters! Here we are, fully stepping into the month of March and preparing to embark on a new season, one of my favorites, Spring!
If I can be completely honest and transparent, the start of this month felt heavy. It seemed as though I was pressed on every side, and some of that pressure even carried over from February.
Work. Health. Personal matters. Friends. Family. The state of our country. The state of our world.
All the things. Life has been really loud.
Ever since I can remember, I’ve heard people say that we are living in the last days. Now, more than ever, there is little question that we truly are in the FINAL countdown.
And in moments like this, a question can quietly rise in our hearts:
Am I doing enough?
Am I serving enough?
Am I ready?
But as I reflected, I realized something important: it was more about “I” than anything else.
Have you ever felt like your life was on a good trajectory, only to suddenly find that things weren't working the way you had hoped?
What do you do in moments like that?
For me, it began to feel like a game of whack-a-mole. As soon as one issue or thought was taken captive, another one would pop up, and they were all comin’ in hot!
At the beginning of the month, I was ready. I declared this would be a month of significant breakthroughs. But as the days went on and the challenges seemed endless, I found myself wondering about God's promises.
“Lord, what happened here?
You said this… and I’m not seeing it.”
Surely the messages God has spoken and the things He has shared, are not for nothing.
Because scripture reminds us:
“God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?” — Numbers 23:19 (NKJV)
If God's word is true, and it is, then what happened? Then that gentle, still voice rose up inside of me and simply said:
Come spend some time with Me. God is the perfect gentleman. He could have said, “Listen, daughter, it’s you. You moved away from Me.”
But instead, He gently invited me to step away from everything and come into His presence.
And there, in His presence, I realized something important:
It wasn’t Him.
It was me.
I had looked away for a moment.
God does not change! What He says, He means.
The adversary may bring 99 problems, but it is not my position to stare at the problems. My position is to keep my eyes fixed on Jesus.
“Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith…” — Hebrews 12:2 (NKJV)
As I spent time in the presence of God, the level of peace that came over me was undeniable. The heavyweights lifted. You see, it was never about striving to do more. It was about realigning my focus. Returning to the presence of my Abba Father, allowing Him to make me more like Him, laying everything at His feet, and trusting Him to do what only He can do.
So I say to you today, yes, there may be 99 problems trying to capture your attention in a world that more often feels like it has completely lost its sense of normalcy.
But hear this:
Step away, my sister.
Step away and immerse yourself in the never-ending and never-failing love of God. He wants to carry your burdens.
“Cast all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” — 1 Peter 5:7 (NKJV)
He is the best burden carrier, secret-keeper, heart-cleanser, and friend I have ever known.
Trust Him.
Stay close to Him.
Love Him.
Because He loved us so much that He gave His only Son.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son…” — John 3:16 (NKJV)
If you find yourself feeling overwhelmed or distracted by life, try this:
Put your phone on silent.
Turn on some worship music.
Get into His presence.
Invite the Lord and the Holy Spirit into your time.
Start with thanksgiving. Thank Him for the day, for His protection, for His provision, and simply for who He is.
Then repent for striving to do everything in your own strength instead of allowing God to simply be God.
Cast every care! Yes, every single one, onto Him.
Ask Him to wash over you with His blood and His love.
There you will begin to experience what I can only describe as a tsunami of His presence.
The weight lifts.
Peace fills the room.
Joy returns.
Once you experience that, you realize something powerful:
It wasn’t God who moved.
It was your focus.
I did this, and I can honestly say that was a complete shift! Many of the circumstances around me didn’t visibly change in the natural realm. But I know there was a shift in the spirit. And because of that, I have peace again and the clarity to continue doing what God has called me to do in this season.
Stay focused, despite what you see and what is going on around you.
The circumstances around you may not change immediately, but when your posture and focus change, peace returns and clarity follows. When our eyes remain fixed on Jesus, we are reminded that our hope is not in what we see, but in the God who holds everything together.
God is still in control. His plans for you are good, to give you a hope and a future.
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” — Jeremiah 29:11 (NKJV)
Even when life feels overwhelming, when distractions are many, and when the weight of the world feels heavy, remember that God's promises remain true. What He has spoken, will not return void.
So keep your focus on Him.
Trust Him.
Walk with Him.
And allow His presence to restore your focus and renew your peace.
Action Steps
Spend 20-30 minutes alone with God each day.
Create intentional, distraction-free time with Him. If you have more time, linger longer in His presence.
Put your phone away during your prayer time.
Invite the presence of God and the Holy Spirit into your space and allow yourself to be fully present with Him.
Begin with gratitude.
Before asking for anything, thank God for who He is and what He has already done. Love on Him with your words.
Repent for looking away.
Ask God to forgive you for moments when your focus shifted from Him.
Sit in silence for five minutes.
Give God space to respond and allow His peace to settle your heart.
Write down the promises God has spoken to you.
Revisit them when you need encouragement or reassurance.
Replace anxious thoughts with scripture.
When worry tries to take over, respond with the truth of God’s Word.
Worship before you worry.
Turn on worship music and shift your focus from the problem to the presence of God.
Prayer
Abba Father,
I thank You for this day. Thank you for this day. I thank you that I can cast all of my cares on you. Thank You for loving me and calling me to spend time with You. Thank you for gently guiding me back into the right position where I belong. Forgive me for losing my focus for a moment.
Today I surrender myself fully to You. Despite whatever is happening around me, in my life, with my family, or in this world, I trust that You are ultimately in control. This world is not my home. Help me to live each day with eternity in mind. Help me to always be guided by you and you alone, for your plans for me are good.
Thank you for loving me intentionally and unconditionally. May this day be filled with everything You would allow me to experience, and may I do all that You have called me to do.
Cover every woman and every person in my life. Allow me to be an encouragement to others just as You have been to me.
In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
