A New Thing Requires a New Posture: An Intentional Way to Begin the Year

The holidays are over. The celebrations have quieted. And now, we stand at the doorway of a brand-new year.

For many, this season is filled with vision boards, goal setting, and resolutions—new gym memberships, fitness equipment, and ambitious plans for personal growth. While none of these things are wrong, there is another group of people who approach the new year differently. For them, this is a sacred time of concentration, prayer, and fasting—a time set apart to seek the One who knows the end from the beginning.

This year, I want to encourage you to be intentional about seeking God for direction—not after you’ve made your plans, but before. Not just your annual fast that your church may start, but really seeing the Presence and guidance of God for your life, for your family. Scripture reminds us to seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, trusting that everything else will be added in proper order.

Putting God first is not just a spiritual idea—it is a daily practice of obedience and honor. It says, “God, You are first in my thoughts, my decisions, my life—and in this new year.”

So why not begin the year by seeking Him first?

This is a practice I strive to apply daily—before making decisions, before seeking counsel from others, and before setting plans in motion. Putting God first is an act of obedience and honor. It communicates, “God, You matter in this situation—today, in my daily life, and in this new year.”

Seeking God With Intention

How can you seek God today?

You can seek Him by setting aside intentional time for prayer, fasting, and consecration, creating space to hear the instructions He desires to give you for the year ahead. Don’t let this new year be reduced to a list of dreams and desires without first seeking the perfect will of God.

God’s perfect will is the best place to be. In His will, there is favor, alignment, and grace. There is a noticeable difference between striving in our own plans and walking in what God has already ordained.

As we step into 2026, let’s commit to doing something different. Let’s move away from routine and into revelation. Let’s seek the Lord for His perfect will, not just His permission.

The Bible reminds us:

  • Romans 12:2 (NKJV)  “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

  • Psalms 37:23 (NKJV) “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way.”

“Do not remember the former things… Behold, I am doing a new thing.” - Isaiah 43 18-19

God is inviting us into something new—but new requires intentional surrender of what was normal and traditional to seek His perfect will and plans for our lives.

A New Way Forward in 2026

As we move into 2026, let’s put away doing things the way we’ve always done them. Let’s seek the Lord for His perfect will.

One of the Scriptures the Lord placed on my heart this year is:

Isaiah 4318–19 (NKJV):  “Do not remember the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth; shall you not know it?”

If you’ve always created a vision board, try something different this year. Consider committing to a fast—whether a 3-day, 7-day, or 21-day fast, a Daniel Fast, or another form of fasting for consecration—as you seek God’s direction for your year. (Please remember to seek the guidance of a healthcare professional before beginning any fast.)

In addition to giving up food, consider laying aside certain forms of entertainment. Create space to truly immerse yourself in God's presence. This is a win-win situation—you are walking out Scripture, and there is a promise attached. According to Matthew 6:33, when we seek Him first, all our needs will be met. Journal what God speaks—not just what you desire. Let your plans flow from His voice, not pressure or comparison.

Walking Forward as an Intentional Woman

This year, let’s not rush ahead of God. Let’s walk with Him.

You are not just existing—you are intentionally becoming.

 Keep BEING.

 Keep BECOMING.

 Keep BELIEVING.

This is the heart of Being an Intentional Woman— where faith, intentional living, and sisterhood intersect.

Let’s make this year count—for the glory of God.

A Prayer of Consecration

Father,

As we spend time in Your presence and consecrate ourselves for Your glory, lead us and guide us. Remove every distraction so that we may see You and hear from You in ways we never have before.

Lord, we surrender our will, our plans, and our desires to You. We seek Your face for guidance, direction, and the perfect will You have prepared for our lives. We commit this year to You.

In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray.

Amen.

💛 Thank You for Being Here

You are not just existing—you are intentionally becoming.

And I’m so glad you’re here.

Keep BEING. Keep BECOMING. Keep BELIEVING.

Let’s intentionally walk in the truth of who God created us to be—together.

With love and purpose,

 💛 Always BEING Intentional
